Services also include counseling; parent resources and education; marriage education and relationships skills training; case management for families, seniors and persons living with HIV/AIDS; family reintegration; substance abuse prevention and financial know-how etc. Family Service Center: In almost any city or a town, a ‘family services center’ can be found. These are the centers that have a well-trained, experienced and motivated staff which provides the tools for people to live happier and healthier lives. These centers take the responsibility to help people get back on their feet, overcome challenges and become stronger and closer. Quality family support programs and professional counseling to the individuals are the main focus areas of these centers and they carry out tasks such as, providing children a safe home and educating and creating awareness in communities, schools etc. In an attempt to improve their quality of life, these centers carefully plan and design services that aim at strengthening individuals, families and organizations. Since they are aware of the fact that socio-economic pressures in urban areas are often the main cause of family stress, disintegration and child destitution therefore, special interventions are evolved as a response to the needs of such families 'at risk'. Community based, family oriented and developmental strategies are devised and some programs also include adoption, foster-care, sponsorship and community Development. Jewish Family Services Guided by Jewish principles and values, there are certain family services centers that aim at empowering a family - the core unit of society, by creating and enabling an environment, that is conducive to the growth and development of children, adolescents and adults. Quite comprehensive in nature, these Jewish family services are open to almost every secular member in the community. These societies generally raise money through donations or fundraising events that go directly to pay for social services. Additional financial support is derived from foundations, endowments and grants provided from organizations etc. Jewish family services keep on conducting nationally recognized programs that provide personal growth opportunities for people of all ages, counsel families and individuals, support the elderly and recent immigrants, house the homeless and abused, and feed the hungry. Most of these services are supported by a staff that includes licensed clinical social workers, psychologists, public health experts, physical therapists, gerontologists, nurses, chefs, drivers etc. Community Service: Any act or service that benefits the community that you live in comes under the category of community services. Many people, voluntarily or as a part of a community services organization, engage in community services without expecting any tangible rewards. In either case, the community does benefit. Following tasks can be included as a part of community services: * Tutoring children * Assisting the senior citizens. * Cleaning a park. * Building homes in low income areas. * Collecting items for charity such as clothes, food, or furniture. * Cleaning roadside verges. * Performing habitat restoration. * Helping with civic beautification. * Helping the elderly in nursing homes. * Helping the local fire or police service. * Helping out at a local library. * Participating in school activities that benefit the wider community etc. Family Service Resources Family services in New Jersey: • The Division of Youth and Family Services (DYFS): New Jersey's child protection and child welfare agency • Family Service Association of New Jersey (FSANJ): A membership organization comprised of nonprofit agencies serving families and children. • Foster and Adoptive Family Services (FAFS): To provide support, training and advocacy to meet the special needs of foster, adoptive and kinship families. • Children's Aid and Family Services. • Autism Family Services of New Jersey. • Jewish Family Services of Central New Jersey • Seashore Family Services of New Jersey (SFSNJ) Family Services Rhode Island • Family Service of Rhode Island. • WBCA Elderly and Family Services. • Jewish Family Services of RI. • Tides Family Services, Inc. • Casey Family Service etc. |
